Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam with a millennium-long history. The architecture includes some of the most well-known Vietnamese classic monuments, as well as decaying but relatively intact examples of French colonial buildings. When you visit Hanoi, you should not miss the fascinating maze of 36 streets in the Old Quarter and some of the main cultural sightseeing points in the city, including the Ho Chi Minh complex, the Temple of Literature, the Museum of Ethnology and Ngoc Son Temple. Venturing to the outskirts of Hanoi, you can take a one day trip to the Perfume Pagoda (a vast complex of Buddhist temples dating back to the 1400s), Thay Pagoda (dating back to the 11th century and the birth place of water puppetry) or Duong Lam ancient village.
