This peaceful central city has long been synonymous with royalty, culture and spiritual reflection. The former Imperial capital is renowned for the magnificent architecture of its citadel, palaces, royal tombs, pagodas and temples, built under the Nguyen Dynasty on the banks of the Huong River. Located on the country’s central coast in Thua Thien Hue Province, the area has a variety of sites of outstanding natural beauty. The average temperature is about 25 degrees Celsius and is also notorious for its torrential rain, which can pour down unabated for a week. The beauty of the area led it to be chosen as the capital by the kings of the Nguyen Dynasty and was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
