Fast facts

Project duration: Up to eight weeks
Location of project: Various locations across Hanoi & HCMC
Arrival airport: Noi Bai & Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Airport Code HAN – SGN),
Working hours: Flexible; usually Monday to Friday, up to 8 hours a day; all other time is free.
Activities: Providing general care and assistance in looking after the children, some of whom have special needs. This will involve playing games, teaching English and basic life skills.
How to get to the project: Depending on location; 30 minutes -1 hour taxi ride (please budget approximately US$80 per week)
Requirements: Minimum age 18

Day 01: Arrival

Welcome to Vietnam! Today you will be met at the airport and taken directly to the accommodation which will be your home for the duration of your stay in Vietnam. You will have the rest of the day to rest and recover from your journey. If you are feeling adventurous you can head out and start exploring your surroundings!

Day 02: Orientation and free time

Your orientation will take place after your arrival day and will take place at the hotel/local office where you’re staying in Hanoi. All new arrivals will have their orientation together, and this will cover important information such as what it’s going to be like at your trip and project, dos and don’ts, fun things to do in North and South Vietnam, a language lesson and how to stay safe on your trip. You will also have a walking tour of the city to get you more acquainted with your new home! This is your prime opportunity to ask any burning questions that you haven’t yet had answered and to meet your fellow volunteers!

Day 3: Introductions at your project

Today you’ll be up bright and early for your first day your project! Today is all about settling in and getting to know your way around. The local team will introduce you to the staff at the orphanage who will be your day-to-day contacts. You’ll spend the rest of your day learning the ropes and starting to get involved with some volunteering.

Day 4 - 5: Time to get involved!

Now’s the time to get stuck into some volunteering. You’ll be working alongside the full time Vietnamese staff members and will be involved in a wide variety of tasks depending on the needs of the orphanage. You could be singing and dancing, teaching English, playing games and giving out cuddles, or helping with the day to day running of the orphanage. You’ll get out what you put in, so don’t be afraid to use your initiative and get involved!

Day 6: Hanoi - Halong Bay (L/D)

You will be picked up from your hotel in Hanoi at 8:00 am for a 3.5hr-hour drive through the Red River Delta to Ha Long City. Welcome to the Indochina Lounge for short break before transfer to the boat. Enjoy welcome drink. Cruise briefing and safety instructions. Your junk start cruising while deluxe Vietnamese and International set-menu lunch is served. The cruise stops at the Titop Island. Enjoy swimming, relaxing on the beach or climb to the top of the mountain for fantastic views and photo opportunities. Your cruise continue to the Bat Cave area where you take part in one of the two programs: 40-minute kayaking to the nearby lagoon or take a rowing boat to visit the Cua Van floating fishing village. The cruise will sail for about 30 minutes to the Luon Bo area where you will anchor for an overnight stay. Enjoy a deluxe Vietnamese & Western buffet or set menu dinner followed by evening activities as film entertainment, board games, playing cards or you can try the cruises massage services. Day 7: Halong Bay – Hanoi (B/L)

Early bird can enjoy sunrise and Tai Chi practice on the sundeck. Coffee, tea and breakfast pastries served in the dining room. Once again there are two optional activities: visit the famous Surprise Cave or relax onboard the boat. Enjoy a set menu or buffet brunch in the dining room. Your cruise will set sail back to the harbor while you may relax on the sundeck or in the dining room, enjoying the bay scenery. Short relax at the Cruise before rejoin your private car back to your hotel in Hanoi.

Day 8: Departure

There is no activity planned for today, so you are free to enjoy your time souvenir shopping until transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
